The South Florida Grand Opera's production of Verdi's opera would make the composer proud. Inspired by the assassination of Swedish King Gustavus III, the work tells the saga of Riccardo, who loves his friend's wife. When the crush becomes known, a scheme to kill Riccardo at a party is hatched. This opera was so controversial when first conceived by Verdi, Austrian censors demanded the composer change his original characters' titles and the opera's setting. Beginning with a Taste and Toast of fine vintages, this wine fair goes on to feature a Swing and Sip golf tournament, a Food, Friends and Fun interactive dinner led by celebrity chef Govind Armstrong. This orchestra from Saxony is considered the oldest in the world-it's been fine-tuning since 1548 to be exact. In the April 9 program, conductor Myung-Whun Chung will lead the ensemble through Beethoven's work: Symphony No. 6 in F Major and Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major.
